60 × 40 cm — Grounding Mat for Desk or Standing

Product Specifications (Quick Facts)

  • Materials: PU (conductive top) + rubber base.
  • Colour: black · Size: 60 × 40 cm (23.6 × 15.7 in).
  • Connection: ships with a grounding cord fitted with a built-in ≈91 kΩ ±1% current-limiting safety resistor — no direct mains contact. Plug as shipped: EU (Type F); UK (Type G), US and AU plugs available separately.
  • Use: bare-foot contact under a desk or while standing, or as a desk-surface mat for wrist and forearm contact while you work.

Whether you’re sitting with bare feet resting on it under your desk, standing on it through the day, or using it as a desk surface so your wrists and forearms stay in contact while you type, this mat gives you a steady, generous grounding surface either way. It’s a similar total area to our Large Desk or Floor Mat (2,400 cm² vs. 2,368 cm²) — the difference is shape, not size: this one is closer to square, so it works equally well underfoot or under a keyboard-and-mouse setup, while the Large mat’s longer, narrower shape is built for spanning a keyboard and mouse side by side.

Care

  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Product features

  • Construction: a conductive PU top layer bonded to a rubber base, for durable bare-foot or desk-surface contact.
  • Connection: ships with a grounding cord fitted with a built-in ≈91 kΩ ±1% current-limiting safety resistor. EU plug included as standard; UK, US and AU plugs available separately.
  • Intended Use: works equally well underfoot — sitting or standing at a desk — or as a desk-surface mat for wrist and forearm contact while you type.
  • Footprint: 60 × 40 cm, almost identical in area to our Large Desk or Floor Mat (2,400 cm² vs. 2,368 cm²) — the difference is shape: this one’s closer to square, suited to either underfoot or desk-surface use, while the Large mat’s longer, narrower shape is built for a keyboard-and-mouse strip.

Materials and care

  • Composition: conductive PU (top) with a rubber base.
  • Cleaning: wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or solvents, which can degrade the conductive PU surface.
  • Storage: keep out of direct, prolonged sunlight and away from high heat, which can degrade the PU surface over time.

Common Questions about Grounding

What is earthing and how does it work?

Earthing (also called grounding) is the practice of making direct conductive contact with the Earth's surface. The Earth carries a virtually limitless supply of negatively charged free electrons. When your body connects to the Earth — via bare skin on the ground or a grounding product indoors — your body's electrical potential equalises with the Earth's, which is a measurable physical effect. Some researchers propose these free electrons also interact with free radicals in the body; it's a plausible mechanism, not one that's been directly proven in people.

Is it safe to plug a grounding product into a wall socket?

Yes. Grounding products connect only to the earth (ground) pin of your wall socket — never to the live or neutral pins that carry electricity. A built-in current-limiting resistor (≈91 kΩ, ±1% tolerance) in every cord allows the steady low-current flow of Earth electrons while completely blocking any hazardous electrical current, even in the event of a wiring fault.

Does skin contact affect how grounding works?

Yes. Direct skin contact with the conductive surface is what allows electron transfer to happen at all — even a thin layer of clothing reduces conductivity significantly. For the intended physical effect (your body's voltage equalising with the Earth's), bare skin against the conductive area works best.

How do I know my outlet has a working earth connection?

Use a simple socket tester (we stock them in our range) — it plugs directly into your outlet and uses a row of indicator lights to confirm whether the Live, Neutral, and Earth connections are all present and correctly wired. A proper earth connection is required for indoor grounding products to work.

How long does it take to notice a difference from grounding?

It varies. Some people report feeling different — often better sleep or less tension — within the first few nights; others notice nothing for weeks, and some feel no difference at all. On the research side, evidence is thin: a small 2004 study (Ghaly & Teplitz, 12 people, no control group, materials supplied by a grounding company) found lower night-time cortisol after grounded sleep, but a later, more rigorous replication (Brown, Chevalier & Hill, 2010, 8 people) found no significant effect. We won't claim a guaranteed timeline the evidence doesn't support — consistency and your own experience are the best guide.
