What’s in the Box, Honestly
4 min readShare
TL;DR: Key Takeaways
- Three parts, usually: the fabric or mat, a cord with a built-in ≈91 kΩ ±1% current-limiting safety resistor, and an adapter for the earth contact.
- An EU plug is standard on our own stock: UK, US and AU plugs are available separately; for the United States or Canada, see Does it work with US or Canadian outlets?
- A socket tester is not included: it is a separate item, and it is the thing to buy first if you have never checked your socket.
- Packaging is a cotton bag and a card: no sachets, no inserts asking for a review.
A grounding sheet or mat arrives as the conductive item itself, a cord with a built-in ≈91 kΩ ±1% current-limiting safety resistor, and an adapter that connects to the earth contact of a wall socket. Our own-stock products include an EU (Type F) plug as standard. A socket tester is sold separately and is not in the box.
Why this is a question at all
Because this category is full of kits, and a kit is a word that can mean almost anything. We have been asked whether the cord is extra more times than any other question except sizing, which tells us the listings in this market are not clear enough — ours included, until we rewrote them.
So, plainly: here is what comes out of the parcel.
Part by part
- The conductive item. A sheet, half sheet, pillowcase or mat. On bedding, a press-stud at the edge is where the cord attaches.
- The cord. Ours is 4.6 m (15 ft) straight as standard, with a built-in ≈91 kΩ ±1% current-limiting safety resistor inside it. A coiled cord that relaxes to about 1.8 m and extends to 6 m (20 ft) is available separately.
- The adapter. The part that goes into the wall. It connects to the earth contact and to nothing else — there is no path from the live or neutral contacts into the cord.
- The plug type. EU (Type F) as standard on our own stock. UK, US and AU plugs are available separately; for the United States or Canada, see Does it work with US or Canadian outlets?
- The packaging. A cotton bag and a printed card.
What is not in the box
A socket tester. It is a separate purchase at a few euros and it is the first thing we would buy, because it answers the only question that has to be settled before setup: is the socket you intend to use actually earthed?
Also not included: an extension lead, a second cord for a partner’s side, or a spare adapter for a different country. All three are stocked separately, and all three come up often enough that it is worth saying before you order rather than after.
Why we list the parts instead of the kit
A customer in Ghent wrote to us last winter after buying elsewhere. The listing said "complete grounding kit". What arrived was a sheet and a photograph of a cord. The cord itself was a separate line item on the same shop, twelve euros, and nobody had said so.
That is not fraud, it is just a listing written by somebody who already knew what was in the box. It is the easiest mistake in this trade to make and the most irritating one to receive, which is why we would rather spend a paragraph on packaging than on adjectives.
So if anything in the list above is unclear before you order, ask. Real people answer, usually within a few hours, and "is the cord included" is a question we are happy to be asked for the hundredth time.
The first fifteen minutes
- Open the parcel and check the plug type against your sockets.
- Plug a socket tester into the socket you intend to use; read its lamps against its own printed legend.
- Put the fabric on the bed, or the mat where you sit or stand.
- Clip the cord to the press-stud, then connect the adapter to the earth contact.
- Route the cord so nobody stands on it.
If the tester does not show a correctly earthed socket, stop there and ask a qualified electrician. That is the one step in this list that is not a shopping decision.

Grounding Tester Pen — €9.00
A two-pin continuity pen for the fabric side. For the socket itself you want a plug-in socket tester matched to your country.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the cord included?
Yes, on our own-stock sheets and mats: a 4.6 m (15 ft) straight cord with a built-in ≈91 kΩ ±1% current-limiting safety resistor. A coiled cord is a separate item.
Which plug comes in the box?
An EU (Type F) plug as standard on our own stock. UK, US and AU plugs are available separately; for the United States or Canada the FAQ has the detail: Does it work with US or Canadian outlets?
Do I get a socket tester with my order?
No, it is sold separately. We would buy one first, because checking that the socket is earthed is the step that has to come before setup.
Can two people share one cord?
On a double sheet, yes — the fabric is continuous and there is one connection point. Two separate sheets need two cords.
What does the packaging look like?
A cotton bag and a printed card. Nothing else is added to the parcel.
