Half Sheet or Fitted Sheet? It Depends on How You Make Your Bed
4 min readShare
TL;DR: Key Takeaways
- A fitted sheet goes on the mattress: directly, under nothing, with the pocket doing the work of staying put.
- A half sheet goes on top of your own fitted sheet: across the part of the bed where a body actually lies.
- Layers decide it: if a protector or topper has to stay, a half sheet keeps the conductive fabric above it.
- Both wash the same way: no bleach, no whitening agents, no fabric softener, no dryer sheets, and unsnap the cord first.
A fitted grounding sheet replaces your bottom sheet and goes straight onto the mattress. A half sheet lies on top of your ordinary fitted sheet and covers roughly the middle third of the bed. Choose the half sheet if you want to keep your existing bedding and protector; choose the fitted sheet if you would rather the conductive fabric be the bottom layer.
The question is about layers, not size
Almost every email we get on this starts with the wrong variable. People ask which is better, and the honest answer is that it depends on a stack of fabric most of us have never had to think about.
Go and look at your bed. Count the layers between the mattress and you: mattress, possibly a protector, possibly a topper, a fitted sheet, maybe a flat sheet. Whichever grounding product you buy has to end up above all the insulating ones, because the conductive fabric only does anything where skin can reach it.
That single rule answers the question more often than any comparison table. If a waterproof protector has to stay on the bed, a fitted grounding sheet underneath it is in the wrong place, and a half sheet on top is the sensible buy.
What each one covers
| Fitted sheet | Half sheet | |
|---|---|---|
| Position | Directly on the mattress | On top of your own fitted sheet |
| Coverage | The whole mattress surface | Roughly the middle third of the bed |
| Keeps your bedding? | Replaces the bottom sheet | Keeps everything you already use |
| Suits a protector or topper? | Only if they go underneath | Yes — it sits above them |

Two people, one bed
A half sheet is laid across the bed, so a double-width one covers both sides. A fitted sheet covers the whole mattress by definition. In either case there is one cord and one connection — the fabric is continuous, so there is nothing to divide.
The real complication with couples is duvets. If you sleep under two separate duvets in the Nordic way, nothing changes underneath; the arrangement below is the same bed.
Cord routing, which nobody thinks about until it matters
The press-stud sits at a corner or an edge depending on the product, and the cord has to reach a socket from there without crossing a walkway.
- Decide which side of the bed the socket is on.
- Check that socket with a plug-in tester before anything else.
- Pick a cord that reaches with slack: 4.6 m (15 ft) straight, or coiled from about 1.8 m out to 6 m (20 ft).
- Run it under the bed frame rather than across the floor beside it.
If your bedding is staying
Grounding Half Sheet — 12% Silver — €169.00
Lies over your ordinary fitted sheet, with a denser conductive grid than the entry fabric and an EU (Type F) plug as standard.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a half sheet on a single bed?
Yes. A half sheet is sized by width across the bed rather than by mattress length, so it suits a single as easily as a double. The size chart lists the widths.
Does a fitted grounding sheet replace my normal one?
Yes. It goes directly onto the mattress in place of your bottom sheet, which is what keeps the conductive fabric close to skin.
What if I need a waterproof protector?
Put the protector under the conductive fabric, not over it. In practice that usually means choosing a half sheet and laying it on top of everything else.
Which has the denser conductive grid?
Among our own stock, the 12% half sheet is denser than the 6% fitted sheet, and the 46% High-Silver half sheet is denser again. The percentage describes the proportion of conductive fibre in the fabric.
How often should I wash it?
As often as the rest of your bedding. No bleach, no whitening agents, no fabric softener and no dryer sheets, and unsnap the cord before it goes in.
